A full-length STANDALONE romantic comedy from USA TODAY bestselling author R.S. Grey.

Everyone in Cedar Creek, Texas, knows Jack McNight is an arrogant devil. Physically, I get it: he’s tan and fit, with coal-black hair that’s clearly been scorched by hellfire. Oh, and his personality? It burns just as hot.

When I show up on the doorstep of Blue Stone Ranch, I’m run-down and rockin’ my last pair of underwear. I’m hoping for a savior, but instead, I find him.

My opinion of Jack is marred by a dismal first impression, but his opinion of me is tainted even before I arrive. He’s heard I’m a spoiled princess there to take advantage of his goodwill. To him, I’m more trouble than I’m worth.

Our button-pushing banter should get under my skin. His arrogance should be a major turn-off. Problem is, devils are known to offer their own form of temptation.

Every one of his steely glares sends a shiver down my spine.

Every steamy encounter leaves me reeling.

Sure, it could be the Texas heat messing with my head, but there’s no way I’ll survive the summer without silencing him with a kiss and wrestling him out of those Wranglers.

Who knows…going to bed with the devil might just be the salvation I’ve been looking for all along.

The Arrogant Devil

This is my first read of R.S. Grey’s work and I must say this book made such a great first impression. It tells the story of Jack and Meredith. Jack is the arrogant devil, hot cowboy and the owner of the Blue Stone Ranch from Cedar Creek, Texas. The ranch has many other businesses and Jack was overwhelmed as the story started because his housekeeper just quit and his personal assistant who is also Meredith’s stepsister is away on a vacation.

The Strong and Determined Heroine

Meredith has recently left her rich husband. She had enough of an abusive relationship that left her self-esteem at rock bottom. On the surface, her relationship with her husband looks like a fairytale match even in the eyes of her family but that is not the case because her husband has been verbally and emotionally abusive of her.

One night, with just her clothes on, she left her marriage home for Texas to stay with her stepsister temporarily. However, fate has a different plan for Meredith because it so happened that her stepsister is away traveling with her husband. They came up with an understanding that Meredith stays with her sister’s boss first and helps in the ranch. Determined to live on her own means, Meredith did not hesitate to find shelter and employment on Jack’s ranch.

But, there’s a problem. Meredith has been already pre-judged by Jack prior to even knowing her fully well. Jack thought Meredith is a spoiled city girl who is just waiting for her husband to come to take her back. He was so mean to Meredith. He hired her to be the housekeeper on the ranch. He let her stay in a run-down shack near the house thinking that she will not last for 24 hours.

However, Meredith is one determined woman to prove Jack wrong. She did her best in her work so Jack cannot fire her. She can cook and she teaches Yoga. She gets the approval of Jack’s grandmother, Edith, and even the admiration of the workers in the ranch and some more people in the town.

Enemies Turned Lovers

Jack has a girlfriend when Meredith arrives but they eventually agree to break up. Jack does find Meredith attractive the first time he saw her and the same goes for Meredith. But, they always fight and annoy each other. Eventually, Jack sees through the real Meredith and they start to find what they are actually missing.

Jack is really irritating at first but Meredith gets my approval from the start. She’s one heroine that I admire and I’m so proud of her actions. But, since this book is written in dual-POV, I fully understood where Jack is coming from by being mean to Meredith.

Overall

I must say this book is one of my latest favorites. At first, I hesitated reading this because the heroine is already married. But, Meredith turns out to be a surprisingly perfect heroine in my opinion. I must say that the story is light and is set in a romantically-conducive setting but you can feel emotions all throughout the book.

This is one of those slow-burn romance stories that I actually love. The gradual build-up of romantic tensions between the two is just right considering that Meredith is still married and Jack just came from a relationship. It is torturous but believe me it will leave you fulfilled in the end. That sex scene, in the end, will surely make all your fantasies come true. Meredith is that heroine that you will actually empathize with and be proud of as she fights for the life that she wants. Jack and Meredith got their HEA in the end and it will surely touch your heart. I give this book my 5-star rating and is one of my top favorites.
