If by any chance, you are reading this out of curiosity then I hope you find inspiration from these characters as a takeaway. I must say that only in anime will you see the most unique writers and readers who have the most bizarre qualities and abilities and who are at the same time up for exciting adventures.

Sheska of Fullmetal Alchemist

Sheska of Fullmetal Alchemist, A Passionate Reader

AKA: Sciezka, Scheska

While the Elric brothers are looking for some missing books during an investigation, they found her buried on a mountain of books. While working for the National Central Library, she was fired because she was spending too much time reading rather than doing her job. However, she played a great part in helping the Elric brothers’ investigation when she revealed that she has a photographic memory and can remember the books that she had read. She was able to recreate a book that the Elrics are looking for. When Maes Hughes, a military officer working for the Investigations Office was looking for some missing records, Sheska was also the one who recreated those records with her photographic memory.

Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden of Violet Evergarden, An Extraordinary Writer

Violet Evergarden is a former soldier who fought in a war. After the war, she became an auto memories doll. As an auto memories doll, she transcribed letters for different clients. This way, she was able to understand more about human feelings and was able to show her own. She’s deadly set in knowing what “I love you” means which are the last words her superior, Gilbert Bougainvillea, spoke to her during the latter’s final hours when they were attacked by enemies. Other known auto memories dolls in this series are Cattleya Baudelaire, Iris Cannary, Erica Brown, and Luculia Marlborough, each has a different personality and writing style.

Basho of HunterXHunter

Basho of HunterXHunter, A Haiku Poet

Basho is a hunter who works as a bodyguard for the Nostrade family. He always carries a brush and paper so he can write a haiku to activate his abilities.

Neon Nostrade of HunterXHunter

Neon Nostrade of HunterXHunter – A Ghostwriter

Neon Nostrade was a daughter of a head of a Mafia Clan. She has multiple bodyguards who are hunters including Kurapika. She was a flesh collector and has the ability to predict the future through quatrains that she writes down with the help and manipulation of the Lovely Ghostwriter. Such ability helps her and her father get the favor of the Ten Dons. Neon has also written the fate of Phantom Troupe, also known as the Spider, a group of thieves with extraordinary powers and abilities. Although Neon’s ghostwriting abilities are in a way different from that of a ghostwriter in the real world, it sure leaves an interesting twist.

Jiraiya of Naruto

Jiraiya of Naruto, a Humorous Novelist

Jiraiya is one of the legendary Sannins and a godfather to Naruto. He has a fun personality and always gives a mirthful laugh. Despite his legendary abilities and is considered one of the greatest ninjas, he is a self-proclaimed pervert who loves spying on women. He used his research from peeping on women as an inspiration for his novels. His first book is entitled “The Tale of the Utterly Gutsy Shinobi,” which features the adventures of a ninja named Naruto. This is where Naruto’s name was taken from by his father, Minato, who was also Jiraiya’s student and became the youngest Hokage of the village Konoha.

Shigure Sohma of Fruits Basket

Shigure is one of the members of the Chinese Zodiac and transforms into a dog in certain situations as a result of the Sohma curse. He writes literary novels under his name and trashy romances under pen names. He is often visited by a desperate publisher looking for his writing manuscripts. He usually wears a kimono to get into the spirit of things as a writer.

Shizuku of Whisper of the Heart

Shizuku Tsukishima – Whisper of the Heart, A Determined Novice Writer

Shizuku is a teenager who loves to read. She writes alternative lyrics for the song “Country Road” by John Denver. She met Seiji after she noticed that all the books that she borrowed from the library has been previously borrowed by Seiji. It turned out that Seiji was deliberately borrowing as many books as he could so Shizuku will eventually notice him.

Shizuku was led to an antique workshop by a peculiar commuting cat. The workshop turned out to be owned by Seiji’s grandfather, Nishi. Seiji pursued his dream to be a luthier and studied for 2 months in Italy. Back with Shizuku, she decided to pursue his writing featuring the cat statue named Baron and his lost love and the peculiar commuting cat that she saw on the train. I could only envy Shizuku’s determination in finishing her story entitled Whisper of the Heart.

Lucy Heartfilia of Fairy Tail

Lucy Heartfilia is a young celestial wizard who came from one of the wealthiest and most influential families of mages. She is passionate about literature and is writing in between her guild adventures. She became friends with another avid reader, Levy McGarden, the leader of Shadow Gear whose power is also focused in a form of letter magic. Levy has been the only person to read Lucy’s novel.

End Notes

There you have our list of anime characters who are into reading and writing. Each has his/her own unique abilities and personality. I must say that just like reading books, reading manga, or watching animes transport us to a whole new world with diverse characters who can be as simple and relatable as we are and as complex and deep as we are in some instances. I must say that on many occasions, we learned a lot from watching animes such as life lessons and qualities to live by to achieve our dreams and goals. Also, we get to watch extraordinary friendships and romance unfold that is patient, loyal, unconditional, and meaningful. In my case, watching animes make me feel a lot of emotions, it gives me hope, and it makes me believe in true love, friendship, and kindness. If you are wondering why I’m saying these things, you can check out some of my favorites, Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin), Naruto, Yuyu Hakusho, HunterXHunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Violet Evergarden, Fruits Basket, and Studio Ghibli movies among many others.

There are many characters in animes who are writers and readers. They possess various qualities and powers in addition to being interesting writers and readers. I hope to add more writer and reader anime characters in my future post here because some of us want our favorites to be writers or readers who can be amusing, bizarre, powerful, and can be a lot of things that only animes can bring to life, time and again.
